General Questions

What areas does Perez Landscaping serve?

Reno, Sparks, Spanish Springs, Sun Valley, Verdi, Carson City, Fernley, Dayton, Washoe Valley, and the Lake Tahoe area.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Nevada C-10 Landscape Contracting #0060848A and A-21 Fencing and Guardrails #0087213, both active. Licensed, bonded, and insured.

Are estimates free?

Yes. Ramiro walks the property and gives you a written estimate with clear pricing, no pressure, and no obligation.

Who will actually do the work?

You get the owner. Ramiro Perez walks your property, quotes the job, and is on site while it gets built.

How fast can you start?

Customers routinely describe estimates within a day and finished jobs within a week, depending on scope and the season.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Commercial landscape installation, irrigation, hardscape, and snow removal for property managers, HOAs, and general contractors.

What are your hours?

Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 5:00pm. Call (775) 378-1234 or use the chat on this site to request an estimate any time.

When is landscaping season in Reno?

Hardscape runs roughly March through November. Planting has a tighter window. Snow season runs roughly November into March or April.

Do you offer snow removal year after year?

Yes, on seasonal contracts or per storm. Commercial contracts are typically set from late summer through October.

Do you handle permits?

We tell you when a permit is needed and what it involves, including retaining walls that need one because of what sits above them.

Landscape Design Questions

Do I need a design, or can you just build it?

Small, self contained jobs often do not need much of one. Full yards, drainage problems, and anything with grade changes benefit from a plan, because the build order matters.

Can I build it in phases?

Yes. We sequence it so drainage, grading, and structural work happen first, with planting and finish work following when you are ready.

Will you work with a plan I already have?

Yes. Bring it and Ramiro will tell you what works on your site and what it costs to build.

When should I start planning?

Winter and early spring, so you are ready to build when the season opens. Hardscape runs roughly March through November and planting is a tighter window.

Do you handle permits?

We tell you when one is needed and what it involves, including retaining walls that need one because of what sits above them.

Paver Installation Questions

Will my pavers sink or shift?

Not if the base is right. Settling comes from excavation that was too shallow, base that was not compacted in lifts, or missing edge restraint.

Can you install over my existing concrete?

Sometimes, if the slab is sound, drains well, and the added height works with your doors. More often removal is the better answer, because a cracked slab keeps moving underneath.

How do pavers compare to concrete on price?

Pavers cost more up front. They also flex with ground movement instead of cracking, and can be spot repaired unit by unit rather than saw cut and repoured.

Do I need to seal them?

Sealing is optional. It deepens the color and helps with stains, and it needs redoing every few years. We will tell you whether it is worth it for your surface.

What time of year can you install?

Hardscape is not frost dependent, so we install roughly March through November.

Decorative Rock Questions

Will weeds still come through?

Fewer, but yes, eventually. Fabric stops what pushes up from below. What gets you over time is windblown soil settling on top and seeding there.

Is rock safer than bark near the house?

Within five feet of the house, yes, and the fire rules call for it. Bark is fuel. Beyond that five feet, bark is fine.

How deep should the rock be?

Two to three inches for a standard bed. Thinner shows the fabric and lets more weeds start.

Can you remove my lawn and replace it with rock?

Yes, it is one of the most common jobs we do. Note there is no turf removal rebate in the Reno area, so nobody should be telling you one will cover part of it.

Do you install dry creek beds?

Yes. Dry creek beds, gravel drainage runs, swales, and slope erosion control.

Retaining Walls Questions

Do I need a permit?

Not if the wall is under four feet and nothing loads it from above. If a slope, driveway, or structure sits above the wall, you need a permit regardless of height. We identify which you have during the site visit.

How tall can you build?

Many residential walls come in at or under four feet.

Why is one quote cheaper than another?

Usually because of what goes behind the block. Drainage rock, pipe, and proper base compaction are invisible once the wall is done, and they are the easiest things to leave out of a low bid.

Will the wall drain properly?

Drainage is built into the wall, and it is the difference between one that lasts and one that leans. We will walk you through what goes in behind yours.

Can you fix a wall that is already leaning?

Sometimes, depending on how far it has moved and whether the base is sound. Ramiro will look at it and tell you honestly whether repair or rebuild is the better spend.

Xeriscaping Questions

Is there a rebate for removing my lawn?

No. There is no turf removal rebate in the Reno and Sparks area. The program people ask about is in Las Vegas, run by a different water authority.

Do I have to give up all my grass?

Not at all. Many customers keep a small lawn where it gets used and convert the rest, which captures most of the water savings.

How much water will I save?

Watering is the biggest water use on most properties here, and drip on drought tolerant plants uses a fraction of what sprinklers on grass do. We can give you a real sense of it after seeing the yard.

What grows well here?

More than most people expect. A wide range of shrubs, ornamental grasses, and perennials handle our soil and winters and still give you color.

Will it look bare in winter?

Only if it is designed badly. Evergreens, grasses that hold their shape, and the rock and hardscape carry the yard through the cold months.

Irrigation Systems Questions

What days can I water in Reno?

Even numbered addresses water Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Odd numbered addresses water Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Nobody waters Mondays, or between 11:00am and 7:00pm. We program your controller to match.

How do I know if I have a leak?

A bill that jumped without a change in habits, one area that stays wet, a zone with weak pressure, or water running when nothing is scheduled.

When should I winterize?

Before the first hard freeze, usually October into early November.

Is a smart controller worth it?

For most properties, yes. It adjusts to the weather instead of running the same schedule in May and August. It will not fix badly designed zones, though.

Can you repair a system you did not install?

Yes, we do it regularly. After 35 years working here, we are familiar with most of the systems around Reno.

Winter Snow Removal Questions

When should I book?

Commercial properties, late summer through October. Residential, before the first storm. Booking during a storm means competing with everyone else who waited.

What snow depth brings you out?

That gets set in your agreement. Around four inches is common, and commercial properties often want a lower trigger.

Do you offer seasonal contracts or per storm service?

Both. Seasonal gives you a fixed cost and priority in the rotation. We will tell you honestly which fits your property.

Will plowing damage my landscaping?

Not if the crew knows what is under the snow. We walk and mark new properties before the season, and we already know the layout on landscapes we built.

Do you work with HOAs and property managers?

Yes, including multi property accounts and subcontractor work for general contractors.
